Purpose of establishment

In response to global population aging and declining birth rates, the increasing number of individuals requiring long-term care has made long-term care services an important issue worldwide. Upholding the University's commitment to humanistic values, the Graduate Institute of Long-Term Care was established in 2015 from a broad and comprehensive perspective on long-term care.

The Institute advocates an interdisciplinary approach to health care and emphasizes the integration of teaching, research, and professional practice. By coordinating long-term care resources, we aim to cultivate professionals with an international outlook who are equipped to contribute to the long-term care industry.

Guided by and committed to the spirit of Mackay, the Institute embraces the core values of Mackay: Integrity and Compassion, Loving Others and Caring for the Vulnerable, “Rather Burn Out Than Rust Out”, and Innovation, Excellence, and Sustainable Development. Building upon the established clinical, research, and educational strengths of Mackay's healthcare system, the Institute provides high-quality and comprehensive education for students who are passionate about healthcare and service.

Our mission is to nurture professional leaders and managers in long-term care who respect the value of life and possess the knowledge and skills necessary to engage in practice, education, administration, and research across various long-term care settings, including individualized care, home care, community-based care, and institutional care.

To promote interdisciplinary collaboration, the Institute welcomes applicants from a wide range of healthcare-related disciplines rather than limiting admission to nursing graduates. Students from both domestic and international colleges and universities are encouraged to apply, including those with backgrounds in medicine, nursing, public health, nutrition, pharmacy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, audiology, speech-language pathology, psychology, healthcare administration, biomedical engineering, medical informatics, geriatric care, social work, and social welfare.

The Institute has attracted many students from diverse professional backgrounds, with a particularly high proportion of working professionals pursuing advanced studies while maintaining their careers.
